Ratna Vajra Rinpoche is considered one of the highest qualified lineage masters of both the esoteric and exoteric traditions of Buddhist philosophy and meditation. He is a descendant of the famous Khon  family in Tibet, which holds an unbroken lineage of great and famous masters for over a thousand years. He is the eldest son of the present 41st Sakya Trizin, the throne holder of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He teaches Buddhism and travels extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and North America.

Now we haven’t stayed in every hotel in Kathmandu, but we have stayed in a few, one of them so bad we had to leave after an hour and one of them was a 4* but ended up giving us food poisoning! So even though we haven’t checked them all out, we’d like to think we know the hotel scene here pretty well, and from our judgement, Hotel Shambala sits atop them all

As soon as we got to Hotel Shambala we were warmly welcomed and greeted by the staff. We took the weight off our feet and sat down in the lobby to enjoy the air-conditioning and complimentary welcome drinks whilst our room was prepared. My first impression of the hotel was great, modern but with a Tibetan theme running throughout, it felt like home already…
